Migrants within Europe still coming to the UK

Demand for migrant workers has risen in the UK labour market throughout this past year with two thirds coming from within the European Union.

45% of British firms are finding vacant positions hard to fill, and as a result are turning to recruit workers from overseas. This is likely to continue as the skills gap will not be closed quickly.

 
17% of companies aim to recruit migrant workers in the third quarter of 2010. Welders, bench joiners CNC operators remain in demand.
 
In the past three months 21% of employers recruited migrant workers, but many of these were for seasonal jobs that Brits don’t want to do. 

Of the 10% of companies that plan to offshore UK jobs. 65% propose to offshore to India, 36% to China and 29% to eastern Europe, presenting a longer term threat because once the jobs are gone they are very unlikely to return.
