The following position is for a Dock Master for a Shipbuilding & Repair Company based in Bahrain.  This is a permanent position and a tailored contract will be negotiated. Our client is seeking a candidate with the following qualities.

  • You will need to have completed Maritime College/Ships Master Ticket and have a minimum of 8 years general experience in Ship Repair.

Responsibilities will include:-

  • Overall day- to-day work of the Docks (Graving Dock and Floating Docks) and to ensure safe and environmentally effective maneuvering, docking and undocking operations.
  • Take over control of the ship from the Dock movement Master once the vessel is in the dock, finally position it and sit it on the blocks.
  • Ensure that Quality Control Systems are maintained in accordance with recognized working practices and the Company’s Quality System Manual.
  • Ensure safe working practices are maintained at all times.
  • Ensure an acceptable standard of Quality, Environmental, OHSAS and Security Management System is maintained in accordance with recognized working practices and the Company’s QEHS&S Manual and Policy.
  • Follows the Docking schedule and Dept. Head instructions regarding Dock Works.
  • Hold daily meeting with Supervisors to check progress or work, provide technical advice and define job priorities.
  • Go on board and in Dock to assist and control Dock Operations and outstanding jobs.
  • Receive from Technical Department Head the docking plan of the ship.
  • Be in co-operation with the Movement Master on board; examine the particulars of the vessels draft, ballast distribution, condition of mooring equipment’s, the personnel and equipment to be deployed.
  • Prepare the Dock to receive the vessel, arrange the position of the cranes, mooring trolley cars, stoppers etc., and ensure that the proper numbers of Riggers are on board the vessel in accordance with safe Operating Procedures and departmental Operating Procedures.
  • After ensuring control of the vessel from the Movement Master on shore give instructions to the winch operators to close the Dock Gate (Graving Dock); manipulate the winches to position the vessel in the correct place, request the pump house operator (Graving Dock) or Floating Docks operators to start pumping, instruct the divers if necessary to check position of the vessel with respect to the blocks.
  • During this phase control the Movement of the Cranes, (Graving Dock) passing of the wires, handling of mooring ropes.
  • Above operations are reversed during undocking of the vessel, the responsibility being handed to the Dock Movement Master ashore as soon as the gate (Graving Dock) is down and the vessel in free to leave the dock.
  • Have continuous contact with Ship Coordinator, Owner’s Representative to assess and define the work related to docking and un docking.
  • Plans and programs the Dock Operations (i.e. Blocks Arrangement, on the basis of Repair schedule received from Department Head and Ship Repair Division.
  • Responsible for maintenance of the Docks and its requirement in top condition using the Yards Operation Departments as necessary.
  • Recommend overtime work to meet job requirements.
  • Recommend any disciplinary action within the section according to Company Rules.
  • Ensure that safe working practices are followed and see that employees are issued with and are using protective equipment.
  • Assist Department Head to prepare and monitor the budget of his section for manpower, materials/equipment.
